Tab Muster

A Chrome extension that automatically groups your tabs by website. When two or more tabs share a domain, they fold into a single named, colored group — click it to expand, and the tab stays out of the way until you need it.

Load it locally (unpacked)

  1. Open chrome://extensions
  2. Turn on Developer mode (top right)
  3. Click Load unpacked
  4. Select this folder (tab-muster-extension)

The extension icon appears in your toolbar. Open a few tabs from the same site (e.g. two GitHub tabs) and watch them fold into a group.

Settings

Click the toolbar icon for a quick on/off toggle and a “Group open tabs now” button, or open Settings for:

How it works

background.js watches for tabs finishing navigation. For each window, it buckets ungrouped tabs by domain and:

It also respects manual ungrouping — if you drag a tab out of a group, Tab Muster won’t pull it back in until it navigates to a different site.
