Tab Muster — Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 20, 2026
Summary
Tab Muster does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any of your data. It has no server, no analytics, and no network requests of any kind. Everything it does happens locally, inside your own browser.
What the extension can see
To group your tabs, Tab Muster reads basic tab information that Chrome's extension APIs expose:
- The URL and hostname of your open tabs (used only to compute which site a tab belongs to, e.g.
github.com) - Tab and tab group state (which window a tab is in, which group it belongs to)
This information is read only to decide how to group tabs. It is never written anywhere outside your device.
What the extension stores
Your settings (whether auto-grouping is on, minimum tabs per group, ignored sites, and similar preferences) are saved using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.sync API. This data stays within your own Google account's Chrome sync storage — Tab Muster's developer has no access to it, and it is never sent to any third party or server operated by this extension.
What the extension does not do
- It does not read the content of the pages you visit.
- It does not track your browsing history.
- It does not use cookies, analytics, or advertising identifiers.
- It does not communicate with any external server.
- It does not sell or share data with third parties, because no data ever leaves your browser.
Permissions used
- tabs — to read tab URLs and move tabs into groups.
- tabGroups — to create, label, color, and collapse tab groups.
- storage — to save your settings locally/synced via your Chrome profile.
