Grid Tab — Privacy Policy

Overview

Grid Tab is a Chrome browser extension that replaces your new tab page with a customisable dashboard. Grid Tab has no backend server of its own, no analytics, and no tracking. Your content stays in your browser. The only exceptions — Chrome account sync, Google's public favicon service, and your own default search engine — are described below.

Data We Store

Everything below is created by you and stored in your browser via chrome.storage.local and localStorage:

• Your name and appearance settings — theme, accent colour, background, borders, and per-widget colours.
• Widget layout — which widgets you use, their positions and sizes.
• Bookmarks & folders you add — name, URL and any icon.
• Tasks, calendar reminders, and notes.
• An image you add to the Image widget — stored locally as a data URL.

Chrome Account Sync

So your setup follows you across devices, Grid Tab also saves your settings (excluding large images) to chrome.storage.sync. This data is stored and synced by Google as part of your own Chrome/Google account and is governed by Google's privacy policy. Grid Tab itself never receives this data on any server — it only reads and writes it within your signed-in browser. If Chrome Sync is off, no sync occurs.

Permissions

• storage — Saves the data listed above on your device and, via Chrome sync, to your own Google account.
• bookmarks — Read-only. Used only for the optional "Import from Chrome" feature, which copies your existing bookmarks into the dashboard. Your bookmarks are never modified or transmitted anywhere.
• search — Lets the command bar run a search using your existing default search engine when you type a query and press Enter. Grid Tab does not change, override, or read your default search engine or your search history.

Third-Party Requests

• Google Favicons — When a bookmark uses an automatic icon, the site's favicon is fetched from www.google.com/s2/favicons. The only information sent is the website's domain name.
• Web search — If you type a query in the command bar and press Enter with no match, Grid Tab runs that search using your browser's own default search engine via Chrome's Search API. Grid Tab does not choose or change the search engine, and nothing is sent until you press Enter.

These are the only outbound requests related to Grid Tab.

Data Sharing

Grid Tab does not collect, sell, or share your personal data. There is no Grid Tab server, no advertising, and no third-party analytics or tracking of any kind.

Children's Privacy

Grid Tab does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
